Latin America Welcomes Travel & Living Channel

Henry Martinez and Angela Recio Sondon Cutting the Cake!

On Tuesday, November 1 Latin America welcomed TLC with a toast event that encompassed simultaneous celebrations in its Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Argentina, Mexico and Sao Paulo offices. The celebrations were hosted by DLA/USH President and Managing Director, Henry Martinez, and Angela Recio Sondon, TLC’s Vice President and Channel Director.

TLC, which in Latin America stands for Travel & Living Channel, replaces Discovery Travel & Living and includes a new look and logo for the channel and a new programming lineup to strengthen the brand and secure its positioning in the lifestyle segment.

In Latin America TLC’s programming is grouped into three categories:

  1. Travel: Some of television’s most original personalities lead TLC audiences on thrilling voyages to distant lands and exotic destinations. This category includes such well-known programs as ANTHONY BOURDAIN: NO RESERVATIONS AND BIZARRE FOODS, as well as the premiere of EARTHTRIPPING, a series that shows how to travel the world while remaining environmentally conscious.
  2. Culinary: Competitive cooking shows such as MASTER CHEF and HELL’S KITCHEN are complemented by CAKE BOSS and CUPCAKE WARS, the latter which features some of the best pastry chefs in the United States and their original creations.
  3. Personalities: The most eccentric and controversial personalities ever seen on TV are on TLC, including former Governor Sarah Palin, who offers viewers an up-close and very real look at her beloved Alaska; and Ami James, the star tattoo artist from MIAMI INK, as he tries to make a name for his new tattoo boutique in the premiere of NY INK.

The network broadcasts 24 hours in 38 countries in Spanish and Portuguese, 90 percent dubbed and 10 percent subtitled and is targeted to adults 25-54. It inherits a 22 million subscriber base from Discovery Travel & living.

In Argentina, the launch of TLC was announced by Henry Martinez and Vera Buzannello, DLA/USH’s SVP of Distribution, at a press breakfast during Jornadas, an annual affiliate trade show and one of the most important in the region, which took place in Buenos Aires on September 28.

In Brazil, the local team organized a TLC dinner for press and affiliated guests. The event took place on Monday, October 24 at a renowned French restaurant that led the guests through a gastronomic trip of France. The purpose of the dinner was to provide a real Discovery experience that would allow guests to ‘sample’ some of the channel´s programming by providing a gastronomic experience.
