Thankfully, now that we’re grown, we’re allowed free range in the awesomeness that is the kitchen (Easy Bake Oven, it was nice knowing you). What better way to reflect on our (semi) mature selves than a grown up version of the Easter Egg.

This Faberge inspired egg cake was so much fun for us to make. Instead of dying actual Easter eggs this year, we dyed fondant, just as messy- way better sugar high. The fabric base surrounding the cake is also sugar. We roll the sugar paste extremely thin and wrap it around the cake to mimic fabric.

Erin took the lead on this project, bedazzling and glittering the heck out of this edible work of art. This cake really took the Easter egg to a new level. And yes, everything on this cake is edible- even the jewels.

My favorite detail are the miniature brooches that Erin placed on the front medallion and along the fabric; simple and elegant.

So when we were asked if we could make a cake to match the birthday boys invitation we were thrilled. The invitation and party were full of colors! Bright, happy and fun colors that were perfect for a little boys birthday party. Of course we had to be sure to include  Curious George’s signature yellow from his shirt, and thus began the basis for our cake.

Erin drew an exact (and I mean EXACT) replica of Curious George from the birthday invitation and then hand painted the little guy to look like he had real fur. Seriously, Erin just amazes me every time.

We hand cut a balloons from sugar that went along with the theme of the party to place on the cake and cupcakes (better believe there were matching cupcakes too).

The cake was vanilla, the birthday boys favorite (have to admit, I didn’t see that coming) and the cupcakes were our signature chocolate recipe.

We really liked how it looked as if the balloon cupcakes were floating around on the dessert table.

 And this is Robbie. He doesn’t really like to “pose” for pictures and was far to busy with the bounce house for the likes of us. I didn’t blame him, we kind of wanted to jump in there as well…

These miniature stuffed Curious George dolls were an amazing favor and just the right touch. The kids went crazy over them!

We stayed and watched Robbie blow out his candles. It was so much fun to see! It’s very rare that Erin and I get to see a cake of ours once we drop it off at the party, so it really was a treat to see how excited all the kids were when we arrived with the cake. Robbie had put full force gale winds into that birthday wish and went to town on those candles! I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard in such a long time! Do you remember any of your birthday wishes?

First is our contemporary styled Valentines cake; I {heart} you. By far, this was one of my favorite cakes; simple, sweet and to the point. I LOVE YOU and here’s a bunch of sweetness to prove it!

Victorian and romantic, we love the combination of lace and sugar flowers.

And lastly, our tribute to modernism in the form of buttercream. Edible art? Heck yeah.

These next miniature red velvet cupcakes are among our favorites. These cupcakes are colorful, they make an impression and by golly you can easily stuff three or four in your mouth at the same time (oh, and that’s a proven fact).

This is what happens when I’m left alone with a box of cupcakes and a camera for far too long. I have way more shots of these little guys than I probably need but they’re just so tiny!

What a better way to display your treats than placing them in their own porcelain carrier? Just so you know, this did start out as a full tray of cupcakes…

Then it turned into breakfast.

I know we did this same design for some of our Valentine’s cupcakes last year but what can we say. It’s a staple here in our kitchen and a crowd favorite. We will probably do this every year from now until forever.

As if all of the above wasn’t enough of a sugar jolt to get your blood sugar climbing, what’s Valentines day without a bit of chocolate? Enter in our homemade brownies.

Our favorite tip? Take your favorite brownie recipe and use a cookie cutter to cut out whichever shape your little ol’ heart desires. But be forewarned whenever you are cutting out shapes from your brownie pan, you are bound to have brownie scraps left over. The leftover brownie scraps are so tragic in fact, that we had to eat ever leftover piece immediately; we couldn’t bare to look at that brownie graveyard.

A cold glass of milk helped to wash away all of the shame.

It was clear we were going to have left over goodies on our hands. So the big questions was, “What to do with the Valentine’s Day left overs?” Package them up and know that they will find a good home.

Erin helps me out with most cake orders and adds amazing details to each cake we work on. Whether it’s from the kindness of her heart or from what she calls being “volun-told,” Erin is an amazing cake partner and little sister (it’s at this point she’ll probably say, “Casey, I’m your only little sister” and though this is true it changes nothing…)

Since the baby was turning a full quarter of a century I wanted to celebrate her in our traditional way, with a bit of sugar.

For those of you who don’t know south Florida, US-1 is a long and sometimes bumpy stretch of road filled with lots and LOTS of traffic lights and drivers who fear the use of turn signals, a perfect environment for transporting a cake. Yeah, right. In retrospect, it probably wasn’t the best idea to transport the cake on a solid diet of coffee/ caffeine; my nerves were not built for such things.

As a result, the little balloon detached itself from the elephant. In all honestly, I’m a bit surprised the cake survived the car ride at all. Miami drivers make NASCAR look like a round of bumper cars at the fair. And being a fellow Miami driver, I can tell you from experience, WE WILL RUN YOU OFF THE ROAD and blame you for getting in the way (I’ve even seen someone knitting while driving!).

Our mother joined us and we surprised Erin with lunch, cake, cupcakes and a heavy dose of embarrassment. Everything was chocolate, from the cake to the cupcakes; it’s Erin’s favorite.

Everything was meant to be girly and young, I wanted her to know, that no matter how old she is, she will always be my baby sister.

Though some people are in it for the game and others for the commercials, I’m mostly in it for the food. Not that I need a reason to get down and greasy but it’s good to know I can blame that food baby on an entire casserole dish of Swedish meatballs and guacamole (not all at once of course, that just wouldn’t taste right—or would it…).

It’s sometimes hard to admit this but we are Dolphins fans and seeing that they weren’t in this year’s super bowl (or any other for that matter) I wasn’t really invested in the winner of last night’s game. So I basically ate my football feelings in large saucy quantities.

But this is Creations by Casey and its tradition to finish our meals with cake.

I had decided the day before that I wanted a cake at our little super bowl party. So I took the liberty of dragging Erin along with me.

In 24 hours Erin and I pumped out a football cake on what we felt was some pretty realistic looking AstroTurf. That’s right, we decided we were calling it AstroTurf instead of grass; it had that tough synthetic look only AstroTurf can pull off but mostly, just because we could. Erin can wheel a mean airbrush.

We added a little bit of texture and shadowing to the football for more of a rough a tumble look.

And around the 3^rd quarter we unbuttoned the top button of our jeans and helped ourselves to the final course; dessert.

What started out as a simple idea morphed into 4 different cake sketches, a mish mosh of emails between cake suppliers and a garage full of sweet props and accents. I did brooch the idea of chandeliers but was unfortunately shot down before I could even finish saying the word chan-

When we were setting up the backdrop for the dessert table, Erin noted that we would defiantly be needing a staple gun, hammer and nails to assemble everything. I yelled out “SURE! no problem,” and immediately ran to find the staple gun. To my surprise, no one would let me use the staple gun, hammer or nails. Not sure what that was about. My brief dreams of playing around with power tools were crushed.

We left the table empty throughout the baby shower just until after lunch was served. However, we had received compliments throughout the shower saying “oh, we love the dessert table” and we would say, “thank you but there’s no dessert there yet?” and everyone would break out laughing at the colorful but empty table.

You’ve got to love family and friends, they validate and boost your ego like no chocolate bar ever could. Once we brought out the cake, our oldest and dearest friends, gave us a round of applause. The kind that goes from a few claps to ten (but definitely seemed larger in my head). Too embarrassed to even look up, we focused on simply not dropping the cake and cupcakes as we walked the 20 feet or so to the desert table. But seriously, family and friends, you were our first fans and our biggest supporters. Thank you for your continued support and willingness to taste test everything that comes out of our kitchen (and I mean everything. Need I remind everyone of the Guinness cupcake incident??? I think not).

We made what seemed like a thousand of these little blossoms for this three tiered baby shower cake. I had Erin working overtime with me to pump extra out, scared that we would be short when it came time to decorate the cake. We even enlisted her boyfriend for a night of flower making. Pretty sure I wasn’t ever supposed to mention that… In the end we had an entire sheet tray of blossoms left over… ha ha ha

We topped the salted caramel cupcakes with butterfly’s and pink teddy bears. The theme of the party after all was Baby Girl (genius I know).

Then there were the miniature white chocolate cupcakes with our signature buttercream…

Don’t you just love packaged favors? I know I do! I love to have things packaged up for people to take with them. But I think it’s more than that, I secretly enjoy watching women stuff their purses with the treats, it makes me laugh. Sometimes what starts out as one item in their purse ends up as 23. So we made white chocolate button lollipops for the Winona Ryder’s in the crowd.

and sugar cookies that we stenciled on with a little decorative design.

By the way, we are really loving this rustic wooden toolbox. As soon as we saw it in the store, swoon.

Lastly and what seemed to be the biggest hit of the day were Erin’s white chocolate chip cookies. People were eating Erin’s cookies like there was no tomorrow. Although I have suspected the use of illicit drugs during the baking process, I have yet been able to prove it.

All in all, we had a great time planing our sisters baby shower and seriously, I just can’t wait to make Isabella Sofia’s first cake. And by first cake I mean, I’ll most likely be showing up at the hospital with an actual cake. Nothing too crazy, maybe just a one tier cake that lights up and sings Happy Birthday?

Congratulations Shannon, you are going to make an amazing mother!

And if you haven’t seen the video of our desserts from the baby shower on our Facebook fan page yet, here it is again.

The party was going to be decorated with ornaments and poinsettias already and had the traditional red coloring for table clothes. So our idea was to of course go in the complete opposite direction and do a winter white themed idea for the treats. We decided on three cakes and four different flavors of cake. Yeah baby, you heard read right, four different flavors of cake; seemed simple enough in theory.

All of the cakes would be decorated with snowflakes but like in real life, no two snowflakes are alike on any of these cakes.

Our first cake was a rum cake .

The second cake was a rich chocolate cake.

The third cake, with it’s delicate and signature ruffles was red velvet.

Is anyone else noticing the red velvet trend? It feels like the only cake I get request’s for lately is red velvet. Please let me know what it is about this cake that’s driving everyone mad. We sell red velvet cake like hot cakes around here, though I’ve never been quite sure what that expression meant. Inquiring minds want to know…

There were coconut cupcakes, which I personally think I love more than life itself. God, that is not code for smite me with lightning bolts.

We also topped some miniature red velvet cupcakes (I’m telling you people, like HOT CAKES) with Christmas tree toppers. I love how it almost looks like the little Christmas trees are sitting in a blanket of snow. A blanket of buttercream works just as well too.

Then there were the chocolate cupcakes with the snowflake toppers. My favorite detail is that no two snowflakes are alike. Though Erin came up with the idea on how to decorate these snowflakes, I’m sure she wasn’t happy when I asked her to replicate it 30 more times.

We wouldn’t dare forget about the snowflake cookies that were hand cut into a variety of sizes.

Do you know what it’s like trying to keep half a dozen sugar deprived children from jumping the dessert table while you are setting it up? All bets are off when you bring out the iced cookies. Just close your eyes and pray that they pass you by.

For the favors we kept them within the same theme and we packaged peppermint bark from Williams-Sonoma. Have you ever tried their peppermint bark? YUM.

After all the cakes were cut and everyone had their cake and eaten it too (…) all that was left was one miniature cupcake, a few chocolate covered pretzels and a small crumble of chocolate cake that looked like enough to feed a single baby elf. If I have learned anything from this, it’s that women love their sweets.

Handsome has been working in Los Angeles for the last year and half *sigh* and we’ve been commuting back and forth ever since. I get him for holidays, special occasions and for here and there’s. He get’s me in between cake orders. Sorry handsome, that’s just how it works. Sadly this is the first year we wouldn’t be together for his birthday this past November because both of our work schedules.

So with Erin’s help, we decided that when he flew down for Thanksgiving we’d do a little something special for him.

There’s something you should know about Handsome; h e  l o v e s  L e g o. And by love, I mean obsessed. He’s been collecting Lego since he lived in London and let’s just say, he’s no spring chicken. So it only seemed natural that his birthday cake revolved around Lego too.

And not only does Handsome love his Lego’s, he also really loves Miami Heat Basketball. I know better then to interrupt him when the game is on (plus it gives me time to catch up on my shows that he doesn’t usually want to watch with me either. It’s a strange arrangement but it works for us).

By the way, how awesome are those candles? They have an estimated burn time of like 45 minutes!

And no, he didn’t turn 3 but I also didn’t feel like putting out a fire that night.

Here, Handsome can be seen threatening amputation of a defenseless Lego man. Poor guy never saw it coming.


We also had an additional table filled with Thanksgiving themed desserts but due to the turkey overload we were subjected to, we were all pretty much comatose so we only have this one shot.

Food + more food + gravy =  food coma.

It was really important for us balance this collection between fondanted cakes and buttercream cakes. We wanted to show that even buttercream cakes can have a huge impact at your party.

It was bound to happen… I love the ruffle design so much that once we saw it was possible online to stack a ruffled cake, we started to stack away.I doubt anyone can really tell here but the sugar figurine of our baby girl has thunder thighs and that’s just the way we like her. I guess cake really does go straight to the thighs…

We had been wanting to do a rosette cake for a long time now and I am so glad we did one. This cake is coming so close to replacing my love for our ruffled cakes.

Though you can’t really tell here, these little booties were given a heavy dusting and a pearl finish. Adding a sparkly pearl finish is like bedazzling; it’s addicting people!

Our last cake in the Baby Love series is just as dreamy as the first. We styled three square cakes into baby blocks to add a little movement to any dessert table.  I also have no idea why the chicky is 2x the size of the little lamb? Hostile takeover?

What followed next was utter cake madness, a parade of cupcakes… These teddy bear cupcake toppers are among our most popular design and they are always the first to go. We really love the coloring on these teddy bears, right down to the rosy cheeks and button nose.

Love the color combination of the peanut butter frosting and the chocolate cupcakes. The only thing that makes these even better; that they’re bite size.

The lighting here really doesn’t do these little monogrammed cupcake topper’s justice. They were the softest pink and so girly.

Cupcake Parfait. Honestly, you had me cupcake parfait. What a fun treat to have on your dessert table or give away to your guest. We are really loving these.

Once we were finished photographing our entire collection, we kind of just threw it all on one table to get an idea of how much sugar and buttercream we were really working with. The answer; A LOT.
